Ware County Schools AUP
(Acceptable Use Policy)

It is a privilege, not a right, to be an Internet user. The Ware County Board of Education has established the Ware County Schools as entry points to the Internet. Admittance to the Internet is provided free to the students and staff of Ware County. This connection provides access to area, national, and international sources of information and the opportunity to interact with others in collaborative works and intellectual pursuits. It is the general policy that all computers on our network will be used in a responsible, efficient, ethical, and legal manner.

Responsible users may use the Internet to:

  • Research assigned classroom projects.
  • Send electronic (e-mail) to others.
  • Explore other computer systems.
  • Explore other data bases.
Responsible users may not use the Internet:
  • For any illegal purpose, including copyright violations.
  • Send or receive text, images, movies, or sound which contains pornography, profanity, obscenity, or language that offends or tends to degrade others or is inappropriate in an educational setting.
  • Change or vandalize files or data of another user.
  • Wastefully use finite resources.
  • Send or forward personal communication without the original author's consent.
  • Use for any commercial activity.
  • Transmit or receive information inconsistent with Ware County's Community Value Guidelines (Policy IDBA-R).
Responsible users shall:
  • Respect the privacy of others and self.
  • Provide no personal information about a student. This includes home telephone numbers, home email addresses, home addresses, pictures with name identifications, or information regarding specific student location at any given time.
  • Refrain from sharing passwords with others or using passwords not belonging to the user.
  • Respect the network as a shared resource. The user shall not deliberately attempt to degrade or disrupt system performance or to interfere with the work of others.
  • Observe all laws including copyrights, licensing agreements, and trade secret laws.
Penalties for Improper Use of the Internet:

Any user violating these rules and guidelines or any other school and/or district rules or policies is subject to loss of network privileges and any other school or system disciplinary option deemed appropriate. Student violations may result in discipline up to and including suspension or expulsion. Fees and other charges may be imposed. Any unauthorized access, attempted access, or use of any network system is a violation of state or federal law and shall be subject to criminal prosecution.

An Internet user contract may be obtained from the staff member supervising the Internet activity. The student and parent must sign the contract before student access to the Internet is allowed.
