Math- Students should practice math facts every afternoon. This can be done easily while cooking supper or riding in the car. There will be assigned homework from the text book on a regular basis, but it is still imperative that multiplication facts are practiced daily.
Reading/Language
Arts- The students will have a new reading story every
week. They should read the story each night, and study spelling and
vocabulary words that go along with the story. The students will
have homework which will consist of writing spelling words. This
will help them learn the words and work on penmanship skills.
We will alternate between science and social studies throughout the year, so there will not be homework for both of these subjects at the same time.
Science- Some of the material we will cover in science include, sound and light, electricity and magnetism, and weather. In order for the students to understand these topics better, we will have a lot of hands-on activities that will make the subject matter easier, and more fun, to learn.
Social
Studies- Our social studies curriculum encompasses
the beginnings of the United States from Native Americans, European explorers,
Westward expansion, Revolutionary War, and we'll end the year with the
Civil War.
Please
ask your child about his or her homework every day. The students
will be responsible for writing their assignments daily and returning them
the next day. Homework will be light on Wednesdays and I will not
assign any on Fridays. I allow ample time in the classroom to complete
the majority of the work. If you see that your child is having trouble
completing the assignments, please let me know so that we can work out
a solution together.
