Third Grade Students


>What kind of fire truck do you have? Caleb 
 We have many different kinds from rescue rigs, to grassfire trucks, to ladder trucks and pumpers.
 
>Do you take fire dogs with you when you fight fires? Duncan 
 No.
 
>How do dogs help fight fires? Aaron 
 They used to run along beside the trucks to scare people away from the trucks so they wouldn't get hit.
 
>How do the suits protect you? Lauren 
 They reflect most of the heat away from our bodies and also keep us from burning.

>How do you train dogs to fight fires? Maegan 
 Wish we could, would be a lot safer if dogs did our work.
 
>How long is a fire hose? Chance 
 They are 50ft sections and we can connect them to make as long of a hose as we need.
 
>Is it fun to be a firefighter? Corey 
 Yes, its a blast!
 
>How does it feel when you're in a real fire? Matthew S. 
 It is a whole different world, very different from real life, where it is you, the fire and your team.
 
>How does it feel to be a firefighter? Hannah 
 It is a very rewarding job.
 
>Why do some fire stations have fire dogs? Kaitlyn 
 It used to be necessary, but now they keep dogs around because they like them.
 
>What different colors are the fire trucks? Jordan 
 Ours are all a dark red.
 
>Are the suits different colors? Emilie 
 Yes, red for command, black for an interior firefighter, tan for ladder and rescue companies, and white for the fire chief.  Our probationary firefighters also have orange strips on their gear instead of red so we know they are new.
 
>Do you use other dogs besides dalmatians? Lindsey 
 No.
 
>Do you like being a firefighter? Brittany 
 I love doing it.
 
>Do you sleep in the firehouse? Niki 
 Yes, my room is the next door down from the dispatch center.
 
>What was your last dog's name? Crissy 
 It didn't have a last name.
 
>How do most fires start? Skylar 
 Most  are accidents.
 
>Why do you wear a uniform? Ashlee 
 Because fire departments are public service oriented.  People know us by our uniform.  Fire departments are also very military in how they run.
 
>Do fire dogs really wear helmets? Randi 
 Nope.
 
>How do you get all that water in a fire truck? Do you just hook it up to a hydrant when you get there? Matthew H. 
 My truck carries a little over 1000 gallons of water in it, and if we need more we use a hydrant.
 
>How do you get your clothes on so fast? Michael 
 The way they are designed makes them easy to put on.
 
>Why do you have such a big truck? Cheyenne 
 Because we need to carry a lot of water, and equipment that we need to fight fires.
