 How can I describe major events of the Revolution and factors leading to America’s victory over Britian?

 How can I describe key individuals in the American Revolution?

How can I explain causes, events, and results of the American Revolution?

Learning Goals

1.      Students (in partners/groups) will research a key individual or an even that shaped the American Revolution and write a summary of the information collected.

2.      Students will organize their research to create detailed report of their person and/or event.

3.      Students will design and produce a product based on their research either from their key individual or their event that shaped the American Revolution.

Tasks

Task 1.  Using search engines on Web research key individuals and defining events.

       Ex:King George III, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Benedict Arnold,

       Patrick  Henry, John Adams.

Ex: French and Indian War; British Imperial Policy that led to 1765 Stamp Act;The Slogan-“No Taxation without representation” ; The activities of the Sons of Liberty; The Boston Tea Party

Task 2:Use/Complete graphic organizer to organize your research

Task 3: Write a brief paragraph about your person’s life during the American Revolution. Explain how life is different/same as yours.  Which would you prefer?

For Task 4 choose either A or B

Task 4-A:Choose event and complete RAFTS graphic organizer using your research

Task4-B: Choose Person and create a Revolutionary War Biography from your research. 

Task 5: Student will present and oral report of their findings from American Revolution event or key person.

Process

 Inquiry and Discovery: The students will have the opportunity to use the internet, media center resources, and provided printed materials to gather info about key figure or defining event of the American Revolution.

 

Critical Questioning/Thinking: Students will relate their life to that of key figure during the American Revolution and tell which life they prefer.

 

Comparing and Contrasting: As a whole group the students will be able to compare and contrast the lives of key figures during the American Revolution during discussion.

 

Product

Students will complete graphic organizer on key figure.

Assessment

By the close of this unit students will be able to demonstrate understandings above and beyond those of the average learner:

1.       Identify more specific details about key people and defining events of the American Revolution. 

2.       Write a paragraph defining their choice of lifestyle (theirs now or key person’s).

3.       Create a detailed writing using RAFTS   or  Create a biography of a key person.

4.       Present oral report with posters, examples, dressed in character, create backdrop of defining events. 

Resources

Students will use available technology to research key people and defining events of the American Revolution.  Textbooks will be available as resource.

Media Center reference materials and library books are available for research.

Students will have access to technology to create RAFTS (final draft) and Biography.

Students will view movies related to American Revolution’s Key people  and Defining events on United Streaming
