Inclined Plane |
|
Inclined planes are flat surfaces that are tilted at an angle. One end of an inclined plane is higher than another. A slide on a playground is an inclined plane. Inclined planes help move from a high place to a low place, or from a low place to a high place. Trucks use inclined planes to help workers move heavy boxes and packages to and from the truck to the floor. The roof of a building can be an inclined plane, too. It helps move the rain off of the roof and onto the ground. Some inclined planes are not smooth. Stairs are inclined planes, because one end is higher than the other. Ladders are inclined planes, too. Both of these help people move up and down heights. Wheelchair ramps are inclined planes that help wheelchairs move up to higher heights or down to lower heights. Some ramps or inclined planes curve. Ramps on highways curve in circles so that the incline isn’t too steep. Wedges are special inclined planes. They are usually small and used to stop doors from closing. They make our work easier by holding doors open.
