A magnet is an object that attracts certain materials, usually steel or iron. A magnet cannot attract things that are far away and that are heavy. A magnet cannot attract soft things such as: a couch, a chair, and a lot of other things. All around the poles of a magnet is a space where the force of the magnet can act. This is called the magnetic field. You can't see it, but if you put two magnets very close together, you will feel it. If you put a north and a south pole together, they will pull toward each other. This is called attraction.
Watch the little movie we made about magnets attracting. If you watch carefully, you will see the magnets pull toward each other.
