All around the poles of a magnet is a space where the force of the magnet can act. This is called the magnetic field. You can't see it, but if you put two magnets very close together, you will feel it. If you put two south poles together, they will push away from each other. This is called repelling. If you put two north poles together, they will push away from each other, too. Watch the little movie we made with magnets repelling each other. In this movie, the magnets seem to be pushing against each other so that they won't touch.
