Air

Air pollution comes from a lot of things, such as factories, cars and other vehicles, paint, wood-burning stoves and fireplaces, trash being burned, spray cans, and forest fires. If you breathe in many of these pollutants, you will get sick. They can damage a person’s or animal’s lungs, and they make breathing difficult. In Japan, some people wear face masks so that they don’t breathe in air pollution.

You can help fight air pollution. Instead of drying clothes in a dryer, hang them on a clothesline. Turn off lights when you aren’t using them so that less electricity has to be generated. Plant trees where you can.

Cars have special filters in them that trap the harmful chemicals and keep them from getting back into the air. Scientists are working on ways to build cars without using gas at all!
