Eleanor Roosevelt - She married Franklin D. Roosevelt.  She worked hard

for equal rights for everyone, and believed in helping the poor.

 

Thurgood Marshall - He was the first African–American to serve as a justice of the Supreme Court.   He worked hard for equal rights for all people.

 

Susan B. Anthony - She was a lady that fought for women’s rights.  She was against slavery and worked hard for the rights of all Americans.               

 

Cesar Chavez - He was a leader of the rights of workers.  He worked hard to make things better for migrant workers.

 

Lyndon B. Johnson – He was the thirty-sixth President of the United States.

He became President of the United States when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.  President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act.

 

Mary McLeod Bethune – She was a teacher and worked to make things better for African-American children.  Later she started a school in Daytona Beach, Florida for African-American girls.

 

Paul Revere – He was a Patriot and really loved his country.  He traveled on horseback to get messages to people.  His most famous ride was the “Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.”  He warned the colonists that the British soldiers were coming.

 

Frederick Douglass – He was born into slavery.  He escaped and found freedom.  Later he started his own newspaper.  He was a leader in the fight against slavery and worked hard for the civil rights of all people.
