Plant Cells

Graphic by Jordan

Plant cells are similar to animal cells, but they have more things inside them. Plant cells have all the things animal cells have, plus they have chloroplasts, and cell walls. Animal cells don't have those things. Plant cells are also eukaryotic. This means they have nuclei and cell membranes.

Some examples of plant cells are root cells and leaf cells. Root cells help a plant take in water and send the water up into the rest of the plant. Leaf cells take the sunlight and turn it into food for the plant. Each cell has its job to do to keep the plant alive.

Word Fun:  The process that plants go through when cells turn sunlight into food is called photosynthesis. See how many other words you can make with the letters in "photosynthesis".
