The Emancipation Proclamation

By: Anna

Do you know what the Emancipation Proclamation is?  Well I know, it means that in U.S. history President Abraham Lincoln issued a declaration on January 1, 1863, freeing the slaves in those territories still rebelling against the Union.

Here are some important facts about the Emancipation Proclamation: Before Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, he and his cabinet people went and discussed it.  On January 1, 1863, Lincoln signed the final draft of the Emancipation Proclamation.

It was important because it hurt the South's hopes of getting help from France and Britain.

Now I hope that my story about the Emancipation Proclamation helps you learn!
