The Manhattan Project began in August, 1939, after Franklin D. Roosevelt received a letter from Albert Einstein and other scientists stating German Nazi’s were trying to purify “uranium 235”.  Uranium 235 is key element needed in order to develop an atomic bomb.  An enrichment lab was setup in Oakridge, Tennessee, to experiment and perfect the extractions for the atomic bomb. In 1945, after six years and two billion dollars, the atomic bomb was born.
