Deanna Pearl Harbor is one of the largest and best-sheltered naval anchorages in the world. Two mouths of the narrow Pearl stream form it. The Harbor occupies about 10 miles of navigable water. It is located between Japan and the United States. Pearl Harbor is a natural harbor on Hawaii’s island of Oahu.
The Japanese were the ones who bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Prior to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the United States had cut off Japan’s oil supply hoping that it would stop Japan from attacking other countries but that didn't stop them.
Many Americans believed the pacific fleet was so strong that no other Country would attack it, but the Japanese wanted to make sure the U.S. wouldn’t try to stop them from forming a huge empire.
In the attack, the United States lost 98 ships that were sunk, about 150 planes destroyed and 3,581 causalities (which included people in the military and civilians).
The attack stunned and saddened Americans. The day after the attack President Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan.
