Okefenokee Swamp

The Okefenokee is in southeast Georgia. It is in both the Gulf Coastal Plain and the Atlantic Coastal Plain. A lot of cypress trees grow in the swamp. Alligators, herons, and snakes live in the swamp, along with other animals.

The Okefenokee gets its name from a Native American word that means “land of the trembling earth”. The swamp is made up of lots of small islands that float on top of a large body of water.
