A tall tale is a story that has a lot of exaggerations. That means that the truth has been stretched (it is tall!). Have you ever heard someone say they caught a fish that was as big as a whale? That is an exaggeration. They may have caught a fish, but it probably wasn't as big as a whale. In tall tales, the characters always do things that are too big to be the truth. One tall tale is the story of Paul Bunyan. He has a big blue ox. Another tall tale is about Pecos Bill. He rode a tornado! Both of those stories stretch the truth and make it tall.
