When energy moves from one thing to another, it can move slowly or it can move fast. Insulators keep things from moving fast. Have you ever used an oven mitt to take a hot pan of cookies from the oven? The oven mitt is an insulator. It keeps the heat from transferring to your hands and burning them. Have you ever ordered a pizza and seen it delivered with the box in a cloth bag? The bag is an insulator. It keeps the energy and heat from the pizza inside, to keep the pizza hot.
