A thermometer is a tool we use to measure heat. Temperature is marked in degrees. Some thermometers measure in Fahrenheit. Others measure in Celsius. Thermometers have liquid inside them. As the temperature gets warmer, the liquid expands. This makes the liquid rise up in the thermometer. The thermometer has lines and numbers printed on it, kind of like a ruler has. These lines and numbers tell us what the exact temperature is. When the temperature gets colder, the liquid in the thermometer contracts or gets smaller. This makes it fall back down in the thermometer. You can learn how to make your own thermometer.
