Children

What were the Indian children like?

Boys learned how to make weapons and tools. They also learned how to fight and hunt animals. They used bows and arrows to hunt with.

Girls learned how to cook, sew, make baskets and bowls, and how to prepare animal hides to be used.

The children liked to listen to stories at night. They had a lot of myths and legends that the older family members would tell them. The children were often raised by their aunts and uncles or their grandparents.

Think about it:  Imagine that you are a Native American child who lived long ago. What games would you play? What toys would you play with? Would you be able to play all the time? Would you have to do any work? What work would you have to do? How would that work help your family and your tribe?
