Rocks can be classified in several ways.  First, into igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.  Then by color and hardness. A rockhound has to look at several things to figure out which type of rock it is:  size, color, how hard it is, how it's made up, its texture, how it reacts to acid, and how it breaks.

We looked at several kinds of rocks in our school's rock collection. We took pictures of some of our favorite ones.
