We are trying to help kids learn about stars. We want kids to know about constellations like the Big Dipper and Little Dipper. You can click on the buttons at the top or on the stars in the picture above to learn more. The stars are always in the sky. They are always shining. During the day, you cannot see the stars because the sun is bright. At night time, you can see the stars because the sky is dark. Stars are big balls of very hot gas. They are far away from the earth. Stars don’t really twinkle. They look like they twinkle because their light hits the air when it gets close to earth. The air moves the light around and makes it look like the stars twinkle. People in different parts of the world see different stars. They do not see the same parts of the sky. There is a star that you see during the day but not at night. Do you know what it is? It is the sun! The sun is really a big star. We see it best because it is closer to the Earth than any other star. You might have heard of the Evening Star or the Morning Star. These are the same thing, but they are not a star at all. This star is actually a planet: Venus. Planets do not seem to twinkle like real stars do. Shooting stars are long streaks of light that we see in the night sky sometimes. They aren’t really stars, though. They are pieces of rock that are falling through the air. They are also called meteors.
