New stars are called novas. They aren’t really new. They are old stars that aren’t very bright, and all of a sudden they explode. They stay bright for a while and then fade. Supernovas are stars that explode and become extremely bright. One famous supernova is called the Crab Nebula.Stars are made when gas and dust whirl together. They get more and more gas and dust and they get hotter. When it gets hot, it begins to give off light and heat. The middle of the star is like a big heater. This is how stars are created. Stars get older, just like people do. Sometimes they burn up and die. When a star gets older, it gets bigger and cooler. The star looks red. Then the star gets smaller and hotter and might explode. Or it might cool off and die. When a star dies, it shrinks. Then it’s called a black hole. It doesn’t give off light or heat anymore, so it’s not a star any longer.
