Chairman Wendell Bagley called the meeting of the Wacona
School Council to order at 6:00 p.m. on December 11, 2007.
Officers/Parents/Representatives in attendance were:
Wendell Bagley Chairman
Dr. Jacqueline Turner Principal
Marni Shuman Assistant Principal
LeVar Garner Teacher
Representative
Kelvin Lanier Parent
Representative
Rochelle W. Varnadore Business/Parent Representative
Brenda Spearman Secretary/Teacher Representative
A quorum was established and official school council
business was called to order and conducted by Mr. Bagley.
Mrs. Spearman read the minutes from the last meeting
(October 22, 2007). Kelvin Lanier offered a motion to accept the minutes. Dr.
Turner seconded the motion.
The council discussed the possibility of a running record on
the report card each nine (9) Week period. It was also brought to council’s
attention that the report cards would not go out until after the holidays.
Wacona’s new Parent Resource Room was a major topic. The
principal was excited about the reference materials that will be available to
parents. She believes that these materials will be beneficial and is anxious to
get the room organized. The group suggested names of parents from PTA and
others to help set up the room. Dr. Turner said that monies are still available
to use for the establishment of this area. A council member also suggested that
we send the message to parents on the report cards (via. Infinite Campus)
regarding our Parent Resource Room.
The fifth grade CRCT was discussed and the council was
reminded that if students do not pass this test they would have to attend
Summer School. Parents may appeal but will be most likely denied because of
stipulation on the state level.
After School Tutoring is being offered. It began in
November.
Mrs. Callahan may be contacted regarding CRCT workshops for
parents. Workshops include test taking strategies and other information
pertinent to the CRCT. The beginning date for administration is April 1.
The noise level in the lunchroom is still on the table.
The next meeting will be March 3, 2008 at 6:00 p.m.
Nominations for school council will take place at the next
meeting.
There being not further business to come before the council,
the meeting was adjourned!
Dr. Turner treated the council with a repast in recognition
of the Christmas holidays.
