Vitamins are found in foods that people eat. Vitamins are substances that our bodies need to keep us healthy.

If people do not eat foods with enough vitamins, they may have to buy vitamins to take separately. Vitamins are good for you as long as you take the right ones in the right amounts. You should check with your doctor before you take any vitamins.

Different vitamins help your body in different ways.

Vitamin D helps your bones grow strong.

Vitamin C helps fight against colds. It also helps you heal if you get a cut.

Vitamin B helps give you protein for energy.

Vitamin A helps your eyesight.

There are two types of vitamins:  fat-soluble and water-soluble. Fat-soluble vitamins will stay in your body until your body needs them. Water-soluble vitamins are used by your body right away.

Be sure to read the labels on foods like cereal. They tell how many vitamins that food has.
