Animals are one of the five kingdoms. What makes animals different from the other kingdoms?

They cannot make their own food. They have to eat other animals and/or plants to survive.

They move from one place to another to find what they need to live.

They are multi-cellular creatures. That means they are made up of many cells.

They are eukaryotic. This means their cells have a nucleus and are surrounded by membranes.

They digest their food.

They give birth to live babies.

There are more than one million species of animals that have been identified and named. There are a lot more that haven't been identified or named yet.

Animals are divided into two groups:  Vertebrates and invertebrates.

Vertebrates have backbones, and invertebrates do not.
