Fungi are one of the five kingdoms. What makes fungi different from the other kingdoms?

Fungi can be found everywhere, including in bread and in your shower.

Fungi do not move from place to place.

Fungi do not have chlorophyll and do not make their own food.

Fungi feed on dead tissue.

Most types of fungi are multi-cellular. This means they have more than one cell.

There are over 70,000 kinds of fungi that have been seen and identified and named. Many more exist.

Some of the types of fungi are:

  • Mold
  • Mushrooms
  • Yeast
  • Truffles
  • Morels

Fungi do not have stomachs, but they do have to take food in from other organisms. They break down dead material and absorb it.

Fungi can cause some problems for humans, such as athlete's foot and ringworm. They can also damage crops.

On the other hand, some fungi are useful, such as yeast. Without yeast, we couldn't make most of the bread we eat.
