Monerans are one of the five kingdoms. They are sometimes called bacteria. What makes monerans different from the other kingdoms?

They are prokaryotic. This means they do not have a nucleus or a cell membrane.

Most monerans cannot make their own food. They rely on other kingdoms for their energy.

Monerans have only one cell.

Monerans can be harmful, but they can also be helpful.

Monerans can be in one of three shapes:  Rods, spheres, or spirals.

Some people believe this kingdom should be divided into two groups:  Archaebacteria and eubacteria.
